We eat bread practically 3-4 times in a day. Bread is a part of our breakfast, lunch and dinner. This apparently shows that we go through tons of bread in a week. So, I decided why not try baking bread at home. This way we can get fresh warm bread without the additives that are usually found in store bought breads.
The bread that I baked had a nice crispy crust and a soft inside.
It’s great for sandwiches’ and tastes great alongside chicken Korma or any other gravy. Most of all it was easy, affordable and amazingly delicious.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ¼ teaspoon/ 1 package active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (1100 F - 1200 F)/ or you can heat one cup of water on high for 35 seconds in the microwave
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar
- 2 ¼ cups bread flour / all purpose flour/ Maida
- 1 ¼ Teaspoons Salt
- 2 Tablespoon softened Butter/vegetable shortening/Dalda
1. Sprinkle yeast into the water in a bowl and add sugar to it. Let it stand for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes it becomes frothy.
2. Mix the flour and salt together in a large mixing bowl. Add the yeast mixture and the butter. Using your fingers, mix the dough into a sticky mass.
3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
4. Put the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap (I prefer plastic wrap as it does not make the top part hard). Let it rise in a warm place for 45min – 1 hour or until it has doubled in size. (In winter my house gets really cold so I turn on my oven to 75 0F and put the bowl in for 45 minutes.)
5. After the dough has doubled punch down the dough and form it into loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan 5 inches x 9inches. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise/proof for another 30 – 45 minutes.
6. Preheat the oven at 450 0F and bake the cake for 10 minutes and then lower the temperature to 350 0F and bake for another 30 minutes more.
7. Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely.
8. Slice it and serve it anyway you want.
P.S ;- This bread is not a sweet milk bread.
